DREADMOOR Early Access: What's Included at Launch

DREADMOOR Early Access starts 9 November 2026 with the full core loop and one major region. What is in the build, how long it will last and whether to buy.

Last Updated: 2026-10-30

Quick answer: DREADMOOR enters Early Access on 9 November 2026 with the complete core loop and one major region. Dream Dock expects to stay in Early Access for 6–12 months, using the time for balance, performance, stability and polish. There is no co-op, no console version and no second region at launch.

Scope, not a roadmap

Dream Dock has described the shape of Early Access but not a dated content roadmap. Anything below is either confirmed in the Steam build or explicitly stated by the developers; everything else is labelled as unknown.

Early Access is a loaded phrase. For some studios it means a vertical slice; for others it means a finished game with a bug list. DREADMOOR sits closer to the first camp, but with an unusually complete loop: the demo already lets you fish, process, trade, repair, upgrade and sail, and the Early Access build extends that loop into a larger region rather than replacing it.

"DREADMOOR is a dark first-person fishing adventure game set in a submerged world, rotting from a past catastrophe." — Steam store page

What is included at launch

Feature Early Access status
Core fishing loop Complete
Normal and predatory fish Complete
Boat repair and dry dock Complete
Engine, propeller and hull upgrades Complete
Crafting and blueprint research Complete
One major region Complete
Story arc for that region Complete
Additional regions Not at launch
Co-op / multiplayer Not planned
Console versions Not announced
Mod support Not announced

The "one major region" phrasing comes from the Early Access announcement. It means the launch map is not the whole world shown in the reveal material. The Slough and the Throat are part of the opening region; Sludgebet and the deeper waters beyond the gate are set up as future content.

What "complete core loop" means in practice

A loop is complete when every step works without a placeholder. In DREADMOOR that means:

  1. Find a fishing spot and choose bait.
  2. Land the fish with the tension minigame.
  3. Process the catch into meat, scales and fuel.
  4. Sell the valuable parts or spend them on blueprints.
  5. Repair and upgrade the trawler.
  6. Use the better boat to reach deeper, more dangerous water.

The fishing guide covers step one and two, the boat upgrade page covers step five. None of these systems is a demo-only stub; the demo's dry dock and workbench are the same interfaces the Early Access build uses.

What is not complete is content volume. One region means one set of settlements, one main story arc and one tier of waters. If you finish the story, the developers say the waters stay open for rare specimens and further upgrades. That is a fishing-game endgame, not a new campaign.

How long will DREADMOOR be in Early Access?

Dream Dock's stated window is 6–12 months. That is an estimate, not a promise, and it is the most common slip in game development. The useful question is what has to happen before 1.0:

  • Balance the economy so fishing income matches upgrade costs.
  • Improve performance and stability across the region.
  • Polish animation, UI and audio.
  • Add the content that turns one region into a full game.

The studio has not published a region count for 1.0. Do not buy Early Access expecting a specific number of biomes or a specific ending date.

Early Access is not a pre-order

You are buying the 9 November build, not the finished game. If a 6–12 month wait with one region sounds thin, wishlist it and buy at 1.0.

Is the launch build the same as the demo?

No. The demo is a separate app with its own smaller region and questline. The Early Access build includes the opening region at a larger scale, the full module list (including the afterburner and upgraded propeller that are locked in the demo), and story content past the Throat gate.

The demo is still the best way to test performance and decide whether the fishing minigame clicks. It is free, and it runs the same water and fog tech. See the demo page for length and install steps.

What is missing at launch

Three absences matter more than the rest:

Co-op. Steam lists Single-player only. There is no multiplayer mode, no shared boat and no co-op roadmap. The co-op page covers why this is a design choice rather than an oversight.

Consoles. The launch is Windows PC only. A PS5 or Xbox version may come later; nothing has been announced. The console status page tracks it.

A second region. The gate at the end of the demo is a story boundary, not a loading screen into the full map. Early Access continues past it, but the world is still one major region.

Should you buy now or wait?

Buy now if you enjoyed the demo and want to fish through a larger region while the game is being balanced. The $19.99 price is low enough that the demo hours are a fair sample, and the core loop is already intact.

Wait if you want a finished story, console support or co-op. None of those is coming at launch, and the 6–12 month window means the version you buy in November is not the version that ships at 1.0.

A middle path: play the free demo now, wishlist the game, and check the review page after launch for performance and content impressions. The release date page has the price and regional table.
